GeoSoftware

HampsonRussell, from GeoSoftware, is a comprehensive suite of reservoir characterization tools that integrates well logs, seismic data and geophysical workflows in an intuitive environment. The software provides advanced techniques for seismic interpretation, AVO analysis, inversion, rock physics, seismic attributes and reservoir property prediction. HampsonRussell is designed to make sophisticated geophysical techniques accessible while helping geoscientists better understand the subsurface and reduce uncertainty in reservoir characterization.

HampsonRussell for IBA Participants

HampsonRussell software is available to support teams participating in the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award competition. The software can be used to analyze seismic and well data, characterize reservoirs and apply quantitative geophysical techniques as part of your IBA project.

Available capabilities include:

  • AVO modeling and analysis
  • Pre-stack seismic data conditioning
  • Post-stack and pre-stack inversion
  • Seismic attribute analysis
  • Rock physics modeling and simulation
  • Multi-attribute and machine-learning-based reservoir prediction
  • Lithology and fluid prediction
  • Azimuthal and anisotropy analysis
  • Time-lapse seismic analysis
  • Multi-component seismic interpretation
  • Geostatistical reservoir prediction

HampsonRussell Modules

The HampsonRussell suite includes a broad range of geophysical and reservoir characterization applications: GeoAI, AVO, Strata, GeoSI, Attributes, Emerge, Emerge GeoCluster, Geoview, LithoSI, Gather Conditioning, RockSI, ProAZ, MNP, MapPredict, Pro4D, ProMC and AFI.

New in HampsonRussell 2026.3

The latest HampsonRussell release, 2026.3, introduces Emerge GeoCluster, a new add-on module for Emerge. Emerge GeoCluster uses statistical clustering and well data to identify and map geological patterns across seismic attribute volumes. It can help interpreters understand subsurface variability earlier in the workflow, screen prospects and identify areas for more detailed AVO and inversion analysis.

The 2026.3 release also includes improvements across AVO, ProAZ, Pro4D, AFI, Attributes and Geoview, including enhanced processing of large datasets, improved parameter tracking, faster Geoview startup and rendering, and streamlined well export workflows.

Software Access

IBA participants should first check whether their university already has access to HampsonRussell through GeoSoftware’s academic software programs. If HampsonRussell is not available through your university, contact the IBA team for information on obtaining software access for the competition.

Training & Learning Resources

GeoSoftware provides online training resources through GeoSoftware University, including HampsonRussell courses covering topics such as:

  • AVO Modeling
  • Estimating Log Properties from Seismic Attributes
  • Pre-Stack Inversion

These resources can help participants build practical skills and become familiar with HampsonRussell workflows.

I just came back from Houston after attending the Annual Meeting and Exhibition for AAPG. For me It was great pleasure and joy when Qaboos University was announced as third place in the IBA competition. This is the second time in row the Middle East Region participated and in both times we received the third place, last year was KFUPM from Saudi Arabia. The achievements are great and they are many; the participation, the experience, the networking, the dataset gains and others. Above all, when the Middle East Region won such a prestigious international competition among close to 100 reputable universities form around the world, that is truly a great success for the whole region. Congratulations for Sultan Qaboos University, Faculty members, Team Members and to all Omanis. Please allow me also to congratulate myself and all the Council Members of Middle East Region with special thanks to Anwar Beaiji. Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud of you, you raised the bar, now the expectations are very high, please keep it up and congratulations for a well done job.
